I found this crabapple wedged against the trunk of a tree far from the nearest crabapple tree. This is the work of the Red Squirrel. I am not sure if this is a crabapple or is actually a type of apple. There are a number of trees in the area that produce fruit that look like crabapples but are three times the size of a regular crabapple. Maybe they are just a different species of crabapple?
I looked around for Ruffed Grouse today but I only found their prints, and there were plenty of them! There were plenty of Snowshoe Hare prints too! I also found one set of prints left behind by an animal that shuffled across the snow, a porcupine! It was interesting to see how frequently the animals crossed the trail. Judging by all the prints I saw today I should be encountering these animals a lot more than I actually do!
