Backyard Visitor

Kelowna, British Columbia

Our property backs onto agricultural land--horse pasture and orchards. Awhile back we awoke to find a fresh deer carcass left behind by some coyotes. We've had some visitors come to dine: magpies, ravens, a bald eagle...the next morning I saw a coyote and then noticed a golden eagle sitting in the tree. Luckily for me, the eagle has fed several times giving me the chance to photograph him. The best shots would have been him interacting with the ravens, but every time I stepped out onto our deck with my camera, the neighbors' beagle would start barking at me (#!!## dog!!) scaring the ravens away. Good thing the eagle didn't care about that noisy dog and ignored it. Anyways, I didn't get the shots I wanted (the eagle was too far away and the ravens kept getting scared off.) I thought I'd share a couple of shots I did manage to get. They are heavily cropped.

How exciting to have a golden in your yard! You should have called your neighbors and asked them to call their dog indoors! I was excited today when a bald eagle flew over the house. Continued good luck to you!

Amazing. In these cases it's the moment that counts, not so much the quality of the image itself.
