"RUBIDUS" Strecker (Hybrid) --Red-Spotted Purple (L. a. astyanax) X Viceroy (L. archippus)-VENTRAL

My yard, Adams Co. PA

This beautiful photo is definitely the F1 hybrid of archippus x astyanax,
hybrid "rubidus' Strecker. In recent years archippus has been rather
scarce here in the eastern US. Perhaps that's why the interspecifc cross
producing this insect occurred. The butterfly seems freshly eclosed, &
seems to be a male specimen. Hope that these comments are helpful to you.
