Hudsonian Godwits breed in Alaska and Northwestern British Columbia and winter in South America. Although there are historically quite a few records in Pennslyvania it is rare to find one. Ironically, this is the second time one has visited Codorus State Park. The other was in July of 2000. They prefer sandy beaches, mudflats and lake shores.
This bird was first sighted on October 9th, 2006 at Black Rock Flats in Codorus State Park, York County PA by Mike Weibel. It offered birders many good views as it searched for food on the mudflats just a few yards off shore. Monday the 23rd of October was the last date the Godwit was seen on the flats.
