Royal Palace

I shot this through a broken window in the Imperial Capital of Hue. We liberated the city after it was captured in the famous "Tet Offensive of 1968".

I always shake my head at the word "liberate". To liberate the village we had to destroy it.

The Citadel and Forbidden City as it looks today. I took these two months ago. I have seen video footage of what it looked like after American forces retook the palace and grounds from the Viet Cong. A lot of restoration work has been done to restore the ruins to pre-Tet condition, but a lot of work is still left to be done: https://pbase.com/lmwalker/travel_vietnam_20181200_hue_citadel

I thought the infamous Tet was late January 1968.
Love this gallery.

Tet offensive was very heavy....
The blood will be gone today, memories of some people will still be there....
