i just have to say this again, richard. it's a lovely shot. in fact, the whole backstage gallery is my fav. you'd so well in capturing the atmosphere, moments and human emotions. i love it. please keep it up.
From the blurred background I get the feeling there are quite a few women waiting.. waiting for the performance to begin.. maybe with trepidation..
The selective focus makes this about her.. no one else. About her particular feelings and emotions. Excellent.. V
Yes, the foreground portrait is the main focal point but the perfect use of the background makes this shot. The expression and sheer nerves that rollercoaster through minds and veins are nerve wrecking and you can read that off the focussed gaze of the lady in the foreground. Concentration and the ensuing stance adopted by the background shape make this a shot for the record books. This defines live art on stage from behind the scenes; a vantage point that most photographers will never see.
