This gallery contains several images from the Breaks Interstate Park which encompasses the states of Virginia and Kentucky. Most of the facilities are located on the Virginia side of the state line. The Breaks is the largest and deepest canyon east of the Mississippi River and is a geological wonder. It is often called the Grand Canyon of the South and it's always a beautiful and amazaing place to visit but never more so than in the fall. On every weekend of October hundreds of Whitewater enthusiasts come to the Breaks to ride the Class IV and V rapids on the Russell Fork River a thousand feet below the park. The Breaks got its name due to the Russell Fork River finding its way through breaks in the Cumberland Mountains as the river snakes its way to the Big Sandy and Ohio Rivers.
