The kitchen of the house is very changed from what Evelyn remembers. Not only is the old woodstove gone, but there had been large white cupboards which had extended around the room, with an expansive pantry to one side. The kitchen was well used by Anna, her mother. Sometimes she would make cream and sugar sandwiches for the kids, but remember - these were the days when the cream was fresh, rich, and thick from cows and the butter home churned...and cholesterol unheard of. Annette remembers sneaking into some extra sugar as a little girl, only to have Grandma Blackert exclaim, "There's been a two legged mouse in my sugar!" It took little Annette a bit of thinking to realize that the two legged mouse was none other than herself.
