Heuglins Courser (Rhinoptilus cinctus)

Lake Baringo, Kenya

This is a crepuscular and nocturnal wader of dry scrub. It is also known as the Three-banded Courser.
It spends the day resting in deep cover where its cryptic colouration makes it very difficult to find without the help of skilled local guides.

The head reminds me of a Lark. I like the cryptic plumage. Waders are my favorite group of birds and this one would be real 'jewel in the crown'.

Stunning shot Steve!

And an incredible species. I tried to find them myself when I was at Baringo, but didn't succeed unfortunattely. You prove that they do occur there... they're not a mythe...
