Northern Red Bishop (Euplectes franciscanus) male

Pirang

These wee sparrow-like birds are normally a drab grey-brown (looking like a female House Sparrow)but during the wet season the males undergo an amazing transformation into an eye-burning scarlet & black. The males sit atop grass & millet stems displaying their finery.
