Costa Rica -Wildlfe

This beautiful wee country has an astonishing bio-diversity despite being no bigger than Scotland. A very large proportion of the country is under National Parks whilst a number of private Preserves protect further areas. Recently there have been attempts to create biological corridors to connect protected areas allowing movement of wildlife & preventing the isolation & subsequent non-viability of populations.
Costa Rica still holds populations of large mammals such as Baird's Tapir, White-tailed Deer & Red Brocket Deer as well as Peccaries whilst there are still 6 species of cat present including Jaguar, Puma & Ocelot. Sadly sightings of large mammals are rare but Sloths, Coatis & Monkeys are fairly often seen. Reptiles are also well-represented ranging from huge Leatherback Turtles & American Crocodiles to tiny lizards & small rain forest snakes whilst many interesting & varied frogs are also often seen.
