This gallery contains a collection of bird images taken whilst on a family holiday to Costa Rica in July 2008. The majority are record shots rather than quality images.
In an attempt to keep hand luggage weight down I took a Canon 40D camera, a F2.8 300mm lens, 1.4x & 2x converters. I took a tripod with flash mounts in the checked luggage. Unfortunately I dropped my lens-camera-2x converter fairly early in the holiday damaging the flash & breaking the 2x converter(it held up for a few more days before failing) & the lens collar. In this single stupid act I effectively condemned myself to using the 300mm lens + 1.4x converter handheld without flash for the rest of the trip -I suppose it could have been worse, at least I still had a camera & lens!!!
Many of the images were taken on daytrips with Carlos Jimenez. Without his skill & expertise I would have returned home with a great many less images. Carlos is a bilingual birding guide who is great company, has immense birding skills with endless patience & is a really nice guy. Any birder visiting Guanacaste or arriving there with the intention of birding further afield would be strongly advised to contact him. Hi RAINBIRDER,
I went through your impressive collection of Costa Rica bird images this evening. What a tremendous series! It seems that we have comparible bird watching destinations. As you may remember you commented on the bird pictures i made in The Gambia in October 2007.
In January 2009 i have planned a trip around CR. I'm looking very forward to it and i hope i will be able to show some nice pictures in my PBASE Galleries later on. Best regards, Aat
