Mission San Francisco Solano was the 21st mission built in California, but it was one of the Top Ten for my visiting. (No one ever said I did things in order, lol) This mission has two distinguishing features about it ~ #1. It was the last mission built in Alta California,
and it was also the only mission built under Mexican Rule.
Built in 1823, the mission had a brief existance, but for those years, it grew into quite an "village" . During it's most prosperous year, the mission housed over 900 Indian workers
on a parcel of land that expanded over 10 acres. That was in 1832.
In 1834, it was secularized, but still served as the parish church of Sonoma until it was sold to allow for construction of a larger church in 1881. Today, only 5 rooms remain of the original expansive complex known as "The Sonoma Mission".
Enjoy the view until I have some time to fill in some details ~
