Wind River Range

After a week in Cooke City it was time to get off the grid with a backpacking trip in the Wind River Range. We first visited the Wind River Range in 2011 and were immediately hooked. This would be our third trip as a family (Steve did an additional trip with Brad last year) and it was our best yet. We spent six days hiking a loop out of Elkhart Park that included Cook Lakes, Wall Lake, Indian Basin, and Titcomb Basin. The scenery was stunning, the weather cooperated, there were no bugs, and it was a fantastic six days. This was our final route with rough estimations of mileage:

Day 1: Elkhart Park to Cook Lake via the infamous Monument Creek Trail (11 miles)
Day 2: Bald Mountain basin day hike (offtrail, 5 miles)
Day 3: Cook Lake to Indian Basin via Wall Lake (mostly off trail, 7 miles)
Day 4: Indian Basin Day hike (half off trail, 5 miles)
Day 5: Indian Basin to Titcomb Basin (4 miles)
Day 6: Titcomb Basin to Elkhart Park (14 miles)
Total: 46 miles
