With only a week for vacation, Becky and I decided to focus our stay in Sognefjorden -- the longest (204km) and deepest (1308m) fjord in Norway. Our first stop was Sogndal, which is the largest town in the region. We caught a flight from Oslo and we had some nice views flying in to the airport, which sits high above the fjord on one of the mountains.
The bus dropped us off in front of Lofteneses Pensjonat where we stayed for two nights. Making and confirming our reservation prior to our trip was somewhat problematic. Becky had finally called Norway and talked to this older lady who said "email? I'm 72 -- I use the phone", despite the fact that there is a website and email address for the place. We were looking forward to meeting her, but we never saw her (she left us notes and we paid for our room in the Chinese restaurant below Lofteneses Pensjonat). In true European fashion the place had "interesting" plumbing. There was a small bathroom with a toilet, a sink, and a shower head on the wall (no stall, no curtain -- nothing -- just water everywhere).
