I read in a book about composition that in order for there to be a "photo," there needs to be contrast of some kind. A poet once told me that in order for there to be a "poem," there needs to "motion" of some kind (or change). I think they are both getting at the same underlying idea. In this case, thank goodness for the late changing green leaf!
