Livani is a town in Western Latgale that emerged in 19th century as a manufacturing centre. The place suffered heavily in both world wars and there are no historic sights. It is a desert of Soviet architecture, so locals were really desperate to apply as much colour as possible when its schools were reconstructed recently. Most of industry didn't survive the end of URSS, but there is something left like two small, but very high tech plants for making specialised optical fibre.
