With more than two and a half million visitors each year, Kensington Metropark is a vast 4,481 acre first-class recreational facility.
Sandhill cranes are occasionally spotted here during the spring and summer, but I have only seen them twice
over the years, only last year on the Kensington Park golf course!
Today I saw what I thought looked like an ostrich 100 yards away walking down a trail at Kensington! Thinking that it must
have escaped from the Detroit Zoo, I walked closer and suddenly saw its mate perhaps 20 yards from me in a
boggy area. This is what I saw to my total amazement.
(Update: Word has spread that two chicks were born to these sandhill cranes on April 30. I hope to get a photograph soon.)
