Pileated Woodpecker

From my Gallery, “A Five Day Florida Wildlife Workshop”

This photograph was taken at Corkscrew Swamp, Florida. Eighteen years later, a Pileated Woodpecker appeared on a tree behind our
house and flew from the tree to my nearby suet feeder. Unfortunately, my camera was not ready to photograph this exciting
moment.

Great pic! I have one that visits every year about this time. This year he has visited twice this week to drill away at my maple tree. I am always too late to catch him on film. They are fabulous to see up close.

Nice shot of the woodpeck Jay. I just posted one that I think is a Pileated Woodpecker to my photo a day gallery. They're a pretty impressive woodpecker. I've only seen the one. vote.

Hi Jay,

Pretty nice catch of a very, very difficult bird. I've never had one in the viewfinder, even though I see lots of them down here in S. Louisiana.
Also, good job with the noise at ISO-800.
