Wetaskiwin, a name from the Cree Indians meaning "Hills of Peace". It is one of the oldest cities in Alberta and will be celabrating 100 years as a City next year. It is known as home of the Auto Mile. [ Cars Cost Less In Wetaskiwin ].The City of Wetaskiwin has so much to offer. First class Airport. Sports minded, the best softball pitcher in the world came from here Mr.Jevne. Many made the NHL. The Original Wetaskiwin Sunset Speedway. Canadian Champion soft ball champs. Two Great golf courses. World Class walleye fishing close by. One half hour to Edmonton the capital [West Edmonton Mall, two and half hours to Calgary, three and a half hours to Banff, five hours to Jasper, and thirty minutes to the International Airport. Great photos, Ron. I grew up in Wetaskiwin in the 50s and your photos bring back many memories. It's so good to see that the city is making an effort to preserve many of those historic downtown buildings, like the old post office and the Imperial Bank building. My father's grocery store was located downtown on the same block as the Imperial Bank and our home was located a block or two away from the old court house (now city hall). My wife and I also enjoyed your photos of Rowley - another wonderful portrait of past Alberta. Keep up the good work, Ron. You are a gifted photographer. Your work brings out the charm in your subjects and speaks volumes for your insightfulness. Thank you.

Sweet childhood memories: I moved to Wetaskiwin with my parents and sister in 1951. My father "Michael Moore" was at one time around 1952 editor of the Wetaskiwin Times. He was Recreation Director for the city after this and Probation Officer for awhile prior to becoming the local Magistrate . My parents and I moved back to England in 1959. I have many wonderful childhood memories of Wetaskiwin and my childhood friends of which I remember Ronny Askland, Ronny Abousafy, Tommy Kommaticki (spelling of last names probably wrong), and Franky Larsen to name just a few. I remember learning to skate and play hockey in the old rink in the early 50's and Al Arner who was a wonderful man. I will always remember Al Arner's sense of humor and the coin on his sports shop counter that was wired to a battery to give you a shock if you tried to pick it up with any change he was giving you. I am now age 65 and the 50's was over a half century ago - but good memories of my youth and Wetaskiwin will remain with me for my lifetime. John Moore

Wow! This is an awesome photo gallery to come across. I moved here in June 1966 at age 10 and grew up here until I moved with my young family to Medicine Hat in September 1984. I had a great time growing up. Ron, your gallery is a treasure to find. It holds many of my memories of places and events and some surprising new changes. I used to hike out to Peace Hills as a kid and loved the Legend of Wetaskiwin. My family, my parents Dan & Clara, owned and operated Dan's TV & Stereo for several years after James Smee of Smee's Radio retired. We soon took on the additional dealership as a Radio Shack Authorized Sales Center and eventually expanded to Leduc with sales and service including Radio Shack Asc. Hi: Lory Kennedy here. Very nice pictures. Pleasant surprise when I looked at the picture of peace hills heights, and it is, in fact, Peace Hills Park. Pleasant surprise because I live in peace hills park, and was happy to find a nice picture of my house.
