Through the wall, Ouirgane, Morocco, 2006

The sight of a tree growing through a brick wall is an incongruous one. This triumph of a work of nature over a work of man is also symbolized by small leaves growing at its base, and the golden glow of the sun around the base of the intrusion.

Thanks, Cyndy, for noticing the role of the dusky warm color here. I always use "cloudy" as my white balance choice -- even when the sun is shining. Cloudy white balance warms the image, adding a touch of red and yellow and removing the bluish cast so common to pictures shot with the camera set at sunny or auto white balance. The touch of green here is also critical -- the tree bursting through the wall is incongruous but the image needed more of a message, and the story you see here -- the triumph of nature's work over man's -- was mine as well. I love the dusky, earthy colors. The angle of the tree protruding through the brickwork and your cropping emphasize the tree's dominance over the wall. The spot of light and greenery further strengthen the message of earth's triumph over man. This is great.

I agree -- the "Timesque" images you speak of are rich in detail, feature subtle touches of light, and often define subjects that most of us would walk right on by. You are also skilled at finding small incongruities that symbolize large ideas. By photographing repeatedly with you, I've become much more observant, though still not as observant as you are. Even though you were not with me in Morocco, I was able to notice something such as this that I would have never noticed before we began our series of shared adventures in the field. Thanks for setting a good example, and for pointing out where I've been able to at least echo your acute powers of observation, Tim.

I might humbly say that this one feels "Timesque" I especially love the golden glow.
