Guards, Royal Palace, Rabat, Morocco, 2006

Colorfully dressed soldiers watch over a building complex that houses Morocco's government. King Mohammed VI stays in his own private residence elsewhere. I stress the red uniforms by abstracting the image – honing it down to the interplay of the red uniforms and the white belts, gloves, and straps. Men with guns in hand often want to be noticed (and feared). Red is a color that will draw notice very quickly.

Glad you feel my intentions and expression are in alignment here, Zane. And glad that you and I can bring the same sensibility to an image, as well.

I like it.

The high contrast of the white against the red demands that the eyes go to the hands then the guns then the belts/soldiers very nicely. Soldiers have guns, no guns and its hard to call them soldiers. So here you have very appropriately used the points of highest contrast and brightness to support the powerful expression of soldiers (which is the primary subject, with guns being the secondary subject). Here your intent and percieved expression are in alignment ;~)

Thanks for seeing what I was trying to say here, Mo. This about discipline, control, pride, and honor. We don't need to see their faces. Their hands and their colors tell the story.

Beautifully abstracted, reminds me a bit of my image in my India gallery of the row of statues without faces
