Mark Holman, gallery owner and sculptor, Gardner, Oregon, 2006

Gardner is a relatively quiet town on the estuary of the Umpqua River. We visited Mark Holman, a Gardner gallery owner and sculptor. He was willing to pose with two of his life sized bronze figures. I abstract them with my frame in order to stress the personality of the man himself. He has a whimsical sense of humor, and it comes through in this environmental portrait.

Your environmental portraits are always full of life and meaning, Jen. It is wonderful when you can look into a person's face and see his soul. You did just that with your portrait of your grandfather (http://www.pbase.com/angeleyes_zyl/image/42016333 ) -- who seems to live life to its fullest. So does this artist. Both this man and your grandfather share the hearts of children -- they will never grow up. Put the two images side by side and you will see this with your own eyes. The figures he hides behind are fire fighters, not soldiers. But close enough. I did not want to describe them, only imply them. I did want his art to compete with his being. You saw it all here, Jen -- you missed nothing. Thank you, as always for illuminating my galleries with your ideas.

Besides street photography, environmental portrait is my second favorite subject, and I enjoy so much looking at this kind of images! You show his character and personality very well in this photo.. From his stained shirt with that red cartoon car, I can tell he is a passionate, hardworking artist with a heart of a child.. The sculptors he made look like soldiers with gun, and he is like a commander at the back and push them go and fight...

Phil, you said he has a whimsical sense of humor, what else did I miss in the photo?
