Back of the bus, Bandon, Oregon, 2006

This gutted, rusting bus sits just outside of the abandoned meat packing plant we photographed in Bandon. The decay may be an ugly fact, but there is a haunting beauty in this image none the less. That beauty is largely due to the ravaged details. The patterns in the rusted metal and plastic signal covers; the delicate spider web next to the yellow arrow, the fragmented words on the peeling bumper sticker, all testify to the vulnerability of man at the hands of nature. Add the lush primary colors, and the result is an expressive image that triggers emotion and the imagination.

Thanks, John -- I like "Left/Stop" almost as much as "Back of the Bus." Having just shot together in Bodie, you know how much meaning I find in wrecks and ruins. ( In fact, I've just posted a new gallery on that subject athttp://www.pbase.com/pnd1/wrecks_and_ruins ) It was good to see you and Vanita again. Looking forward to our next adventure some day.

Even through this image is divided into 4 parts, top one fifth, the portion with the student sign and the bottom two sections it all works and comes together to make a great image Phil. I love the colors and the textures. Another title could be "Left/Stop".

Thanks, Jack, for sharing your pleasure with us. I was fascinated with this image from the moment I looked into my LCD screen at it. And I still am.
