Sunset on the Sahara, Douze, Tunisia, 2008

I abstract these camel-riding tourists as they head off into a Sahara sunset by backlighting them. In doing so, the scene becomes timeless, something out of a dream. A routine camel ride for tourists becomes, for the moment anyway, an scene of ancient beauty.

Thanks for noting the subtle puffs of dust from the hooves here, Jenene. Cinematic is a good word to describe this image -- romantic is another.

Cinematic. Made even more expressive by the puffs of sand and dust from the camel's hooves.

Thanks, Alina -- there is always beauty in abstraction, because so much is left to the imagination.

I liked this moment, too, Kal. It was one of the highlights of my entire experience in Tunisia, a convergence of great light, exotic beasts, and a lot of tourists.
