Wing scales of a male Morpho butterfly (Morpho didius)

Image © Norman Day. Please do not reproduce without permission!

(High resolution original available - please enquire).

The length of the horizontal field of view for this picture is approximately 1.3mm!
The OM 20mm f2 macro lens had to be focussed manually and stopped down to f11. Even at this
aperture, depth of field is miniscule - and therefore I have cropped the original to the area of
best focus. The camera was mounted on a Jessops 920 copystand. Illumination was provided by
ttl flash (camera set to aperture priority mode) using the FL36 unit and FL-CB05 remote lead.

Notice the incorrect EXIF data - both for aperture and flash. The camera cannot provide accurate aperture
information for OM lenses, and appears to only monitor usage of its built-in flash unit.

Thanks Gene. I'm still getting to grips with using the equipment. Focussing is difficult when using the camera's viewfinder or LCD screen - but I understand that Olympus are about to launch an upgrade to their Studio 2 software which will enable live-view focussing on a computer screen for the E-410, E-510 and E-3 cameras and their successors. Yippee!
