School bus, before it broke down......jpg

A Drama Club trip to Kwenda Mission; a long & unforgettable day on which the bus broke down, followed by a hair-raising ride home being towed by the school truck; across the Save river in the dark....

I was part of this trip to Kwenda Mission in 1988. The Mangurenje bus died a few kilometres from Kwenda and we did the remaining part on foot (netsoka). When we were going back late in the evening, some of us chose to be in the bus which was being towed by the Nissan UD and the chain kept breaking. At Save River bridge the bus skidded and rammed into the back of school truck and we through that was the end of us. We got back to Waddilove very late...very hungry and very tired.

Yes - I can clearly see the larger than life Munyarazi Juru (with a moustache already showing).

And I can assure you I was at the back somewhere as well.

REPLY TO QUESTION BELOW (no e-mail address supplied); the year was 1988 or 89, & the drama teachers were myself (a female teacher!) & Mr Town from New Zealand. The boys are all at the back of the bus if you look carefully!

Yes it was also a drama trip to Kwenda in the middle of the 1980. The original Mangurenje blue bus was also towed by the school truck. It was then used here and there but it never going to be the same as it was finally dumped and sold to a businessmen who then thrived by plying the Harare-Juru growth point route.

Yes these good old days.#

BUT..... from your photo, it seems this was now a drama school trip dominated by females. I suppose the drama teacher should have been a womaniser that all the boys deserted the club. this was the ussual situation with our Waddisco unprofessional teachers.
WHAT YEAR WERE THESE PHOTOS TAKEN??

That is strange. Something bad about these Kwenda Mission trips. The original 'Mangurenje' blue bus was last used to go to Kwenda in the middle of 1980s That was the last time it was used. It was never the same as we then settled for the shamefull lorry pick up UD truck until the present bus was bought sometime in 1994.
Uh.. your photos dzandifungisa Waddisco shuwa. Thanks shuwa
