Which Would You Choose?

A checker board has 64 squares - 32 red and 32 black.

If you put 1 cent on the 1st square, doubled the amount and put it on the 2nd square, the 2nd square would have 2 cents on it. Double what's on the 2nd square and put it one the 3rd square so now the 3rd square has 4 cents on it. Double what's on the 3rd square and put it on the 4th square so now the 4th square has 8 cents on it.

If you did this for the remaining squares on the board, would you rather have what's on the 64th square or $5 Million dollars?

PS For those who don't want to do the math, the 64th square would hold $92,233,720,368,547,800.00 and this concept came from an investing class and the subject was compounding.

Love it..
Can you imagine if one would have put away a Pennie a day since his birth until retirement age. WOW!!!

I learned this lesson from an Indian story where a King decided to reward a man who had performed a service for him. He chose grains of rice and it ended that there was not enough rice in the kingdom to pay him. Cool image.

All that math makes my head hurt, just give me the $5Mil and save me the hassle of adding that all up. ;)

I'd go with the 64th square. You'd be over $10,000,000 by the 30th square...

Thirteen perhaps fourteen cents of shiny copper on great DOF. Really interesting shot.
