A lizard, on the Pothole Trail

Plateau Lizard (Sceloporus undulatus)aka "Eastern Fence Lizard". Maybe. I'm not a lizard expert,
and the book I have listing the species in this part of the world is not all that good for
making IDs from...

I mentioned earlier that the cryptobiotic soil crust can tolerate extreme dessication. Now, on this
Pothole Trail, we were hoping to see other cryptobiotic organisms living in the temporary
rain pools on the rock surface -- tadpole shrimp and clam shrimp. The recent rain had filled the
pools, and the ranger at the visitor center had told me that tadpole shrimp had been seen...
