Lesser-spotted Woodpecker researcher José Luis Romero
Between 2000 and 2007 José Luis Romero banded more than 150 Lesser Spotted Woodpecker individuals in northeast Spain, 75% of these were banded as nestlings. The banding effort has yielded several controls (resightings of banded individuals) which contributes to understanding the dispersal of juveniles within the study region. At the same time, this banding of Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers lead to the discovery of atypical cooperative breeding cases.
