i enjoy doing what i call "deep" portraits: photography that reveals feelings, attitudes and the beauty that comes from within the subject. for me such discovery is always a reward in itself, and often i note how the models themselves are surprised and delighted to find their unknown selves and unrealized beauty. it is always hard work for the model and the photographer to reach this stage--and all my shoots take long periods of time, with big breaks when we do nothing but chat.

"For sure it is not like anything that I have ever done before or have been involved in. Truthfully, I have never really done anything ““abstract”” before. It is interesting how everything was done in the format of an interview. That made it feel more comfortable for sure. There is a lot to learn; for example, I never thought about the way that only the hands or torso could make up a "portrait" of a person. I definitely like the way that the eyes themselves could tell a story."
