Merlin Male

Obviously smaller than the female this very fast and efficient hunter is seen here after devouring a juvenile or female Common Redpoll. Some of the Redpoll's feathers can still be seen on the branch.

The male Merlin is about the same length as a Bluejay but more than double the weight and the Merlin's wingspan is 24 inches vs the Jay's 16 inches

Hi Chris....unless you moved to Orleans from the wes end then it looks like the Merlins are taking advantage before the redpolls move on...:-)

Are you sure you weren't hiding out in my yard today?! Coincidentally, I saw a male Merlin with a redpoll here too at around 11:30 am when you saw this one.
