Hi Gary.

Your work is an inspiration. I have been taking bird photos for about a year and a half now and have so much to learn. I have been following your work on Flickr. (I also post photos there.) I am wondering if you ever teach classes or workshops? I would love to meet you sometime.

Hello Gary,
As part of my volunteer work I conduct an outreach program for Pacific Spirit Park Society, (www.pacificspiritparksociety.org - I'm also webmaster). One of the programs I do annually is called "Stories Along the Trail" where costumed volunteer actors tell a short piece of a longer story to the park visitors who come to the event. This year our story was "spirits of the forest" and the actors chose a character they wished to represent. One of the characters, a retired biology teacher, represented a pileated woodpecker,

About 300 people attended the event. I also had a volunteer video crew, and wish to post the videos on the website. The videographers did a really nice job, so I would love to add to the production value of this by having a real photo of the appropriate spirit "ghosting" across the the image as the video ends. So I would like to request use of your flying pileated woodpecker to use in a few seconds at the end of this video. (I would actually remove your background, and just use a cutout of the bird image)

I will include photo credits on the website, and a link to whatever website you would like.

Sincerely,
Pille

Just tripped across your site/collection. Wonderful ! You must be extraordinarily patient...with a fine eye for location.
very much enjoyed the Jay Clown series. They'd make a great stamp series! Call Canada Post and give it a shot. We'd finally have some interesting "definitives" !

Hi Gary - your photos are beautiful. I am the process of making a website for my sister-in-law Pat Allen. She is an archeologist and her small consulting company is called Saw Whet. We were wondering if we could use one of your credited pictures of a Saw Whet for her site. Thanks so much, Moira Allen

I so love your pictures of all the birds you love so much. I have a few that I think you may like. I have the sweetest close-up of the White Throated Sparrow. And the White Crowned Sparrow as well.

Your bird pictures are something to behold. Have you had your pictures published in any nature magazines. Many would be great on greeting cards and calanders.

December 15, 2007 - Nothing like a cold Ottawa morning to get the action going at the feeders. Gary, I really enjoy your shots. I would like to improve my photo results and I'm wondering what kind of equipment you use. I never seem to be able to get close enuf for results like yours. I'm specifically curious about your lens or lenses used. Thx.

Gary, your photography is truly well done. The GHO photography is of particular interest to me. The feeding photos taken a few weeks ago are truly exceptional. Nature photography is somewhat like fishing! It takes lots of patience and perseverance! You just never know when your going to get the big one!

First of all Thank you to Kathy McDevitt for taking the time to comment in my guestbook.

Lloyd Spitalnik: Thanks very much Lloyd and I appreciate you taking the time to identify any birds without names and those mis-identified. As soon as I have a moment I will make the necessary corrections ( are you sure thats not a Nashville Warbler ?). I will look into the Sibley Guide. I am presently using the Peterson, the Birds of Ontario, the Encyclopedia of North American birds and the Canadian guide to birds but another guide will only help.I consider myself lucky to have so many species in the yard but more and more I am in the field, especially for Warblers, Owls and Shore birds and raptors. Thanks again and all the best ( birds included) to you in the new year!
Lloyd & Sandy Spitalnik08-Jan-2006 05:14
Gary, it was fun going thru your bird galleries. You have lots of great pictures. I hope I didn't offend you in any way - after awhile I got the impression you knew most of the birds I was IDing. If you don't already have the Sibley Guide, I'd highly recommend it. You're lucky to be able to see birds from your house. We live in Manhattan and have an apartment list of about 10 species in 20 years. Hope you see lots of good birds and get lots of good pics in 2006.
