Yellow Jacket

I have spent some time looking through Tom's (Dang) galleries and believe this to be a yellow jacket. If you haven't visited Dang's galleries I can highly recommend them, His macro shots are magnificent but please check them all out they are great.

The squareness of the 'shoulders' of it's abdomen suggests to me that this is one of the Social Wasps as opposed to the Solitary or Potter Wasps. But you really need a clear shot of the face to get a definite ID. Probably Common Wasp Vespula vulgaris but I'm not at all certain from that angle.

Ah... Thanks, Mr. Phil. Looks like a yellow jacket to me too, but I always call yellow & black wasps that.
