Light entering the front of the camera passes through the semi silvered area in the primary mirror and bounces down from the secondary mirror through a sensor mask and condensor, bounced forward by another mirror in the AF module, through yet more individual AF area lenses and finally to the multi area AF sensor (facing backward).
