Mark the position of the iris plate in relation to the lens casting.
This will allow repositioning of the iris in the exact location.
If you do not do this, the f/stop will be off resulting in poor exposures.

The snap ring is shown partially removed. Note the sealing lacquer,
which was cut with an exacto knife

The iris can be removed without taking the rear cell off. I do not recommend this
because it is difficult to remove and reposition only from the front.

I did not go through the tricky step of removing the iris assembly from the inner tube but removed the two brackets that guide the inner tube (visible on the next picture). The aluminium tube with the iris installed may be screwed out to the front of the lens now. I cleaned the whole tube with the iris installed. Using a hairdryer (not too hot!) at both sides of the tube and actuating the iris for a minute or two will perfectly dry all the iris elements while the iris is still installed in the tube.
