Iris plate with oil.
See the 50mm repair gallery for tips on cleaning the iris.
I clean mine with an ultrasonic cleaner and detergent, rinsing with distilled wter and alcohol.
No lubrication of any kind is used on the iris.
It is recommended to keep the entire iris assembly together (front and back plates and blades)
for cleaning because it is very tedious to put back together.
