Unscrew the Front element group.
After unscrewing the front group, turn in the set screw
flush with the barrel to prevent damage to the zoom ring tube
during removal.

Hello, I bought this Lens from a friend, but got a problem, which way to lock the Front Element Group? Clockwise or counterclockwise?
When I try to install a protector filter I found my Lens Front Element Group was loose because it can rotate a little, and My friend doesn't know it can be rotate neither.
I worry about maybe the Lens broken or it will effect on photo, try to lock it but I don't know which way is correct.

Why my comment 2x ?? Anyhow, I found out. (No need to remove the element group from the rest.) Using a Ø 70 mm drainage pipe and a Ø 70 mm rubber disk remove the 'name' ring from the front. The first glass is then released. The second glass is (to be *) held in place by a ring with 4 notches to turn it. * Unfortunatly in my case this ring was loose allready, causing the glasses to touch each other (dead in the middle), so: no fungus but damage to both glasses.

Peter,
it it possible to further take the front element group apart? My lens has developed some fungus in the rear of the first glass element...
