The bracket also fits my Mamiya 645. The bracket is simply "skewed" so that the film/sensor planes of both cameras are at the same place front to back. Cameras are then adjusted so that they have the same field of view (by zooming the D-7) and framing by turning the cameras slightly together so they view the same scene.
