September 17

This is a Douglas Fir tree estimated to be over 800 years old. Douglas Firs typically grow straight and tall with a single trunk. This one is close to a west-facing shore where storms from the Pacific come ashore and has been split and contorted over centuries. Broken, wind sculpted trees are common but there aren't any others like this.

Incredible. Imagine what it has 'seen' over those years.

That is amazing. There are a zillion Dougies on Quadra, but none like that.

a wild specimen that speaks of an inner strength in enduring and overcoming challenging weather...all the more amazing too that it isn't a shore pine or juniper with that startling growth pattern..
