The Neoclassical main building of the Academy of Athens was designed by Theophil Hansen as his “trilogy” of buildings in 1859 and completed in 1885. It is flanked by columns topped by statues of Athena and Apollo. Statues of Greek philosophers Plato and Socrates sit in front.
