Completed in 1893, this 4 mile long 70 ft wide canal connects the Aegean Sea with the Gulf of Corinth by cutting through limestone. It shortens the trip around the Peloponnese Peninsula by 430 miles. However, due to its inability to accommodate large vessels, it has limited commercial use nowadays.
