Jan Hus was martyred on July 6 1415 for his reformed belief and message against papal corruption.
His memorial was designed by Ladislav Šaloun (1870-1946) and erected in 1915 for the 500th anniversary of Hus' death.
Behind him are Hussite warriors who took up his belief after his death.
At his feet are Czech Protestants being exiled from Bohemia during the 30 Years War.
In the back is a young mother nursing her infant, symbolizing the rebirth of the Czech nation.
In the background is the Rococo style Kinsky Palace on the northeast side of the Old Town Square, which houses part of the National Gallery's collection.
