VAX 11/780, the first model of the VAX line from Digital Equipment Corp. (commonly known as DEC) based outside Boston along Route 128.
Up to that time, the VAX line was the most beautiful computer hardware ever built.
Eventually, the VAX and its creator DEC were surpassed by commodity priced PC based servers as the era of the mini-computer ended. The micro-computer era started here in Silicon Valley.
