This narrow ravine in the center of Sorrento got its name from water-powered wheat grinding mills built here over 1000 years ago. The creation of Tasso Square in the 19th century changed the micro-climate to unbearably high humidity. Ferns, vines and other lush vegetation have taken over the abandoned mills.
