Located on the south-east end of the Roman Forum, the Arch of Titus was built by Emperor Domitian to honor his older brother and predecessor, Titus, in 82 AD. It commemorates Titus’ siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD by depicting the spoils of war being carried to Rome. For centuries, this relief panel was the only picture of the 7-branch Menorah from the Temple as described in Exodus 25:31-40. It served as the model for all menorahs displayed in synagogues. The text on top was inscribed in 1821 after its restoration.
