Built between 135 to 139 AD, it is later known as the Castel Sant'Angelo, with a statue of Michael on top. The emperor’s tomb was looted long time ago. This structure was then used by various popes as a fortress, a residence and a prison. It is now a museum.
In the foreground, spanning the Tiber River is the 1886 Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II.
