Sultan Abdul Samad Building

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia view map

This 1897 Moorish style building used to house the Colonial Secretariat and later the nation’s Supreme Court. Now it houses the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture (Malay initial KPKK).
Across from it is the Independence Square (Dataran Merdeka), where the Union Jack was lowered for the last time in 1957.
Behind this building is the confluence of the Gombak River and the Klang River, from which Kuala Lumpur got its name "muddy estuary".
