The Kōdai-ji Temple was established by Nene ねね, the widow of Toyotomi Hideyoshi 豊臣 秀吉, in 1605. She is better known in the West by her title Kita-no-Mandokoro 北政所.
She was one of a few members of the Toyotomi clan that survived the transition of power to the Tokugawa clan.
