Located along the coast northwest of Kowloon, Tsuen Wan is a major population center. Since being designated as a “new town” in 1959 by the government, Tsuen Wan has grown from few scattering villages to a major textile industry area in the 70’s and 80’s. With the transformation of economy, it becomes a commercial/residential district, while its neighbor to its south, Kwai Chung (葵涌), became a major container port. New residential high rises for upper-middle class are built along Tsuen Wan waterfront.
